Megan Molten calls her media room the ‘Jungle Tent.’ When Megan spotted the wallpaper from Cole & Son, she had to have it. It’s bold with the tropical feel she wanted, and it pulled the color palette together. She initially thought the ceiling would be solid green, as she wanted a moody media room. When a colleague suggested we paint the 30-inch-wide pink stripes, Megan embraced the idea becaus...

A Gracie wallpaper with flowering trees called ‘Tobacco Silhouette’ was Lisa Palmer’s starting point for her upstairs bedroom and bath. She loves its rich curry color. The space is a corner room with a gorgeous live oak outside the window, which makes it feel a little like a treehouse. To frame the view, Lisa chose a Kravet linen for the drapery, edged with a floral trim by Samuel & Sons. Inter...

The starting point for Amanda Smith Fowler’s laundry room and adjoining hall, came from the tile treatment Jewel Centanni of Ivy Residential Concepts designed. The stripes run from one end of the room across the ceiling to the other side, and the rosy colors make the room glow no matter the time of day. Amanda visited the Liberty showroom while in London, and became enchanted with the company’s...

For Chad Graci designing the kitchen and butler’s pantry was a symbiotic relationship working with Jewel and Vincent of Ivy Residential Concepts. He notes that they have such a good eye and a vision for what they wanted to impart through their surface selections. His goal was to help corral and hone those ideas and tie the two rooms together. Chad’s starting point was the brown-and-white palett...

Rachel Cannon’s inspiration for the powder room came from the marble countertop Ivy Residential Concepts selected. It reminded her of a precious stone, which led her to think of Elizabeth Taylor and her famous jewelry collection. Admitting to an obsession with upholstered walls, Rachel had wanted to do them in a powder room for a long time, and this was her opportunity. Rachel swathed the walls...

Veronica Solomon imagined her bedroom and bath for a person who loves learning about creatures and insects- it’s whimsical but still sophisticated. The Porter Teleo wallpaper is reminiscent of the ink blots of a Rorschach test. Veronica immediately saw butterflies, and they became the jumping-off point for her bedroom. She continued to set butterflies alight in artwork, hardware, and even under...

I guess none of the designers ever heard the expression "Less is more!" The rooms were overwhelming with color, pattern and clutter. Nothing flowed throughout and the rooms were not relaxing! I would say the salon was the best part, however, that looked more like a hotel lobby with all the different seating areas, but wallpaper on ceiling with that pattern was unnecessary!

That wallpaper is ugly: two dimensional to a fault; the light/dark combination don't "pop" anywhere and have the "wrong kind of contrasts" happening. The brown schallac paint on the cabinets looks cheap. Despite different colors being present, the use of brown in this instance creates a "monochromatic prison" and makes me think of the following quote from "The Count of Monte Cristo": "how did I escape? With difficulty. How did I plan this moment? With pleasure." @1:53 - This is not a masculine room just because you place a random cigar and suede shoes on display: no man with a changing room would do this.

Unfortunate window placement in the "library" room - no place for any bookshelves, as they would obstruct part of the windows. This could be an easy architectural fix.

The foyer wall paper just up the stairs would have been dramatic. The paintings are a fail. The nursery was boring. Loved the little room minus the ceiling and all that wallpaper. Laundry room was a disaster. Primary bedroom has been done over and over. Nothing new. Predictable. Grey black and white. Ho hum. The dressing room was gorgeous. The bathroom is boring. Total fail on the dining room. No cohesion in the house at all.

Thank you for this wonderful interview with EEE. One could not wish for a better biographer to honor a life. In keeping with sharing positive experiences with Mario, I should like to add my own. Like Margot, I was interested in learning about the colorful man behind the Prince of Chintz. In August 2018, I threw caution to the wind and reached out to Mario and Emily on social media. Emily immediately replied. We three bantered and I ended up publishing an article “The Magic of Mario” on The Glam Pad in the second half of August 2018. I forgot how soon after Mario passed away, less than 2 months later in October 2018. May I ask about some of your favorite things? “Of course.” What’s your favorite food? “For humans.” I clarified the question to ask for favorite ethnic cuisine. “Oh. Italian.” My 5 star sass took a backseat to Mario’s that afternoon. An affable character who quickly disarmed and charmed all who were lucky enough to cross his path.

Absolutely beautiful home…..absolutely horrible design. There’s a difference between creativity & being cohesive with the architectural home. It appears that egocentric designers were more defined by their selfish interpretation. And strong opposition in every corner of the house…no cohesiveness at all. So silly & childish. If you were to take pictures of each room and set them besides each other it would appear that they are ALL from a different houses of different designs. So sad.
